PAPER Practice

Drawing is tender evidence of gesture responding to evolving plans, investigations, and conditions. It is the most basic form of recording the evolution of a process. It is the fundamental step in my practice.
Drawing has a remarkably unobtrusive nature. I can be rudimentary and masterful, retaining privacy that no other medium communicates by implying active thought and opportunity for simultaneous revision.
The most recent addition to my creative practice is creating. handmade paper. My current works on paper include approximately twenty-five percent of papers I have made myself,
I have a particular interest in hand-beating my paper pulp. I combine traditional fibers such as Kozo, cotton, and flax with botanical materials from my local environment. The act of hand-beating fiber echos chewing and predigesting. Creating new surfaces extends the idea of meditation as a moving, somatic experience.
Making my paper mirrors my practice of weaving my cloth, providing greater nuance and variation to the surfaces to which I apply my ideas.
